Dubai, September 29 - The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced that Sri Lanka off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal has been banned from bowling the Doosra delivery in international cricket due to an illegal action.

He is, however, permitted to bowl his stock delivery (off-break) following an independent assessment of his action held at the Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai earlier this month.

"The results showed that the level of elbow extension measured for all deliveries bowled was well within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC regulations,' an ICC statement said.

"However, the assessment also revealed that Kaushal’s Doosra was found to exceed the 15-degree level of tolerance and it should no longer be bowled in international cricket."

Kaushal will be sanctioned against if he bowls Doosra again in an international match, the ICC statement added.

He has featured in 24 Tests, taking 24 wickets, and an ODI for his country.
