Melbourne, April 22 (IANS) Australian cricketer Aaron Finch has underwent a surgery on his left hamstring here.

The top-order batsman had sustained the injury while batting for Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians on April 14.

"After returning to Australia injured from the IPL, Aaron had scans that confirmed a high grade hamstring injury. As such, Aaron was assessed by a surgeon who felt that he would have a better outcome with surgery," Cricket Australia (CA) physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said on Wednesday.

"Aaron subsequently had surgery yesterday (Tuesday) that has gone well. Aaron will now commence his rehabilitation and we expect that rehabilitation to take up to 12 weeks."

Finch will miss the rest of the IPL 2015 season.
