Jonny Bairstow and Ollie Pope brought England back in the game after India struck twice in the morning session on day 2 at the Oval.

Resuming the day at 53/3, nightwatchman Craig Overton couldn't survive much as Umesh Yadav struck early to complete 150 test wickets. Soon, Yadav removed the other overnight batter, Dawid Malan, as India sniffed a collapse in the first hour with the score reading 62/5.

However, Bairstow and Pope survived the first hour and made full use of the batting conditions in the next half. Pope hit three fours off Shardul Thakur in an over to break the shackles and another three in Mohammed Siraj's next over.

Bairstow too freed up his arms against the boundary balls bowled by Indians, which were a lot. The two have so far added 77 runs in 109 balls and England's trail has now reduced to 52 runs.
