But what will surprise the fans is the fact that Ashwin is also India’s highest run-getter this year in Test cricket. After scoring 40 runs in the first innings, Ashwin has taken his aggregate to 275 at an average of 55.00 in five innings which is the highest among the Indian batsmen in Tests this year. He is followed by KL Rahul (268), Ajinkya Rahane (261) runs. Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who scored a double century in the first Test against West Indies, has failed to score big since then and has scored 260 runs so far.

The way Ashwin is performing both with the bat and ball, it seems he can end India’s long wait for a quality all-rounder after Kapil Dev.
