August 3 (CRICKETNMORE) - Indian Captain Virat Kohli is looking to surpass Steve Waugh's record of seven consecutive series wins as captain when team India will take on Sri Lanka in the second test at Colombo on Thursday.

Kohli who has won 7 consecutive series as captain has equalled the Australia's legendary captain record when India beat Australia by eight wickets at Dharamshala to clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in March 2017. If India beat Sri Lanka in the second or third test of the ongoing series, it will be 8th consecutive series win for Virat Kohli as a capatin.

India have not lost a series home or away since their 2-0 defeat in their 2014-15 tour of Australia.

Ricky Ponting of Australia holds the record for most consecutive series wins as captain. He has 10 victories to his name.

India have performed remarkably well under Kohli and In last two and a half years have lost only two matches while winning 18 games. His overall record is as captain has been phenomenal. In 25 Tests, Kohli has registered 17 wins, two losses and five draws.

Overall Kohli has 18 wins and is currently third most successful Indian captain in term of number of test wins. He is just five away from overtaking Sourav Ganguly's record of 21 wins and become India's second most successful captain after Dhoni (27 wins).
