Team will do well under Kohli says Dhoni

Jan. 13 (CRICKETNMORE) - India's most successful Captain, MS Dhoni’s resignation as ODI captain came as a surprise to many last week. But the former skipper clarified that the decision had been coming for a long time, and with this, believes there should only be one captain across all three formats.

One Captain for all formats

“My last series was the South Africa series in India, after which I told BCCI that I won’t captain India any more. I feel one player should lead in all three formats,” said Dhoni.

“I don’t believe in split captaincy. For the team there has to be only one leader, split captaincy doesn’t work in India, I was waiting for the right time.

About Virat Kohli as Captain in all formats

Speaking about Virat Kohli who is now being the captain in all formats, Dhoni said that he wanted Virat Kohli to ease into the job after taking over as Test captain at the start of 2015.

“I wanted Virat to ease into the job. There is no wrong decision in it. This team has potential to do well in all three formats. I felt it was right time to move on.”

Dhoni added that the Indian team under Kohli’s captaincy will be the most successful of all time, citing the experience and potential of the players.

“Virat and this team will win more games than me. I feel it will be the most successful team ever. That’s the kind of experience and potential they have.

“They have played in knockout tournaments, they have played under pressure. I firmly believe that this will be the team that will rewrite history. They will do very well.”
