Dubai, Jan 20 (CRICKETNMORE): The England cricket team was on Friday penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first innings of the second One-day International (ODI) against India at Cuttack, which the visitors lost by 15 runs. India played only up to 75 per cent of potential Says Virat Kohli

International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Andy Pycroft imposed the fine after England were found to be one over short of the stipulated time during Thursday's encounter at the Barabati Stadium.

"In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount," the ICC said in a statement.

Skipper Eoin Morgan, who pleaded guilty, was fined 20 percent of his match fee while the rest of the side was penalised 10 percent of their fees.

"As such, Morgan has been fined 20 percent of his match fee, while his players have received 10 percent fines. Morgan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing," the statement added.

The charge was laid by on-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Ruchira Palliyaguruge and supported by third umpire Kumar Dharmasena and fourth official Nitin Menon.

England, already 0-2 down in the three-match ODI rubber, will face the hosts in the final match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22.
