Adelaide, Dec 11 (IANS) With memories of the late batsman Phillip Hughes still fresh, the Australian team Thursday rushed to the aid of Indian captain Virat Kohli after he was hit by a bouncer on the helmet during third day of the first Test match between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval here.
Taking guard after the dismissal of opener Murali Vijay, Kohli was hit on the helmet by a Mitchell Johnson delivery. The close-in Australian fielders rushed in to check the condition of the Indian batsman with a nervous-looking Johnson rushing in the aid of the Indian skipper.
Among the first to move in was wicketkeeper Brad Haddin along with Shane Watson, David Warner as Kohli removed his helmet to inspect the damage.
Kohli was, however, unharmed by the blow. Australia captain Clarke also walked in to check on the Indian No.4 and later rubbed Johnson's hair and placed his hands on the nervous quick's shoulders as he slowly walked back to his mark.
Johnson sombrely trudged back with his head lowered before he stopped to speak with fellow quick Peter Siddle while Clarke returned with another reassuring pat as Kohli repositioned his helmet and took guard.

The 25-year-old left-handed batsman Hughes died Nov 27 after being hit by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground Nov 25.
