\nSeven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is not happy with his 10th-place finish at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on his Ferarri debut.
Hamilton, who started on eighth, faced difficulty to get past seventh-placed Alex Albon in a major part of the race at Melbourne\u2019s Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit with on and off rain making things worse for the drivers to overtake.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc ran in solid points-paying places as an initially wet encounter moved to dry conditions, only for another late-race shower to flip the action on its head.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
While some drivers immediately switched to intermediate tyres, others \u2013 including Hamilton and Leclerc \u2013 stayed out on slicks a little longer, briefly putting the Ferraris 1-2 on the timing screen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
However, as the rain intensified and they struggled to keep their cars on track \u2013 highlighted by a moment for Leclerc \u2013 the pair dropped back down the order and had to settle for minor points finishes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
After crossing the line in P10, Hamilton said, \u201cI\u2019m grateful to finish, at least I got one point. Overall, not what I was hoping for, but there was so much to get accustomed to, to get used to, with all the switch settings and changes that they (the team) were throwing at you (over the radio).<\/p>\r\n\r\n
\u201cThen just the balance of the car\u2026 It was really very, very tricky \u2013 really, really tricky today. I think we can improve that in the next race, hopefully, and get the car in a sweeter spot. I think there\u2019s a lot more potential in the car than what we were able to extract today.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Leclerc, meanwhile, put his hands up for a mistake during the late downpour \u2013 even if he managed to work his way back up to eighth with moves on Hamilton and Alpine\u2019s Pierre Gasly.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
\u201cFor a big part of the race we thought P5 was secured,\u201d he commented. \u201cThen, obviously, the rain arrived and everything changed. The first one to blame is myself, after the mistake I\u2019ve done exiting Turn 11.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
\u201cWe lost three or four positions, which was then very difficult to recover. We overtook one or two guys on track, but then we were a bit too late for the pit stop and then we lost a few other positions.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
