The athlete had sustained severe burns to more than 75 per cent of her body after she was set on fire by an ex-partner at her home in Endebess, where she had been training.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Rebecca\u2019s talent, and perseverance as Uganda\u2019s Women\u2019s Marathon record holder and a Paris 2024 Olympian will always be remembered and celebrated,\" the Kenyan Olympic team said in a statement.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Cheptegei, who had previously secured gold at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in 2022, was rescued by neighbours after the attack and was admitted to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
