Mismanagement, petty turf wars and the arrogance of officials have become structural features of the sports sector in Pakistan. Many of the sporting bodies in the country, instead of nurturing athletes, appear more focused on maintaining fiefdoms, which results in talent being demoralised or lost to neglect.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Pakistan\u2019s sports landscape continues to stumble due to the incompetence of those tasked with promoting it \u2014 and not because of a lack of talent. The country\u2019s administrative failure not only shatters the dreams of athletes but also affects national performance in international competitions, as per a report in The Nation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Earlier in July, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) announced that it had set up an inquiry committee to investigate \u201cserious irregularities\u201d during the FISU World University Games 2025 in Germany, including the reported disappearance of two athletes, local media reported.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Citing the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the PSB said that the many \u201cfailures\u201d included the fact that \u201ctwo student-athletes were reported missing or suspected of fleeing during the event\u201d, as per the Dawn report. It added that the selection of team officials \u2014 all of whom but one coach were from the HEC or its affiliated universities \u2014 sparked \u201cconcerns regarding the transparency and merit of their selection.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n
