He recently deleted three such apps from his 16-year-old son\u2019s phone after discovering the teen had lost \u20b950,000. \u201cWhy are my heroes promoting something so dangerous?\u201d he asks.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Another parent voiced frustration: \u201cThe BCCI is busy making money and doesn\u2019t seem to care about what\u2019s happening to our kids. Top cricketers are promoting these apps, and the board isn\u2019t stopping them. Some of these platforms are even sponsoring major tournaments. They\u2019re smart \u2014 they call it fantasy sports, but there\u2019s real money involved, and kids get addicted thinking it\u2019s a quick way to earn.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n
One family attending a recent match was shocked to see several spectators openly placing bets on their phones. \u201cWe saw teenagers on calls, placing bets live from the stadium. And there were many of them,\u201d said a parent.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
While law enforcement agencies have occasionally busted illegal betting networks, the more widespread threat now comes from mobile apps that operate openly under the guise of fantasy gaming \u2014 sidestepping regulation while encouraging risky behavior.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
Critics argue that the BCCI \u2014 the world\u2019s wealthiest and most influential cricketing body \u2014 must take moral responsibility. Yet, its silence has only deepened public concern, especially as prominent IPL players continue to feature in advertisements for these platforms.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
